Portuguese adaptation of rheumatology measures

Professor Stephen McKenna, Jessica Stepanous and Alice Heaney travelled to Portugal this month to adapt three of Galen’s rheumatology outcome measures. The aim was to provide clinicians throughout the country with measures for monitoring patient progress and to help the Pharmaceutical industry to include Portugal in clinical trials. Galen’s newest additions to the team, Jess and Alice, accompanied Steve to Portugal to learn how to conduct bilingual and lay translation panels.  Their work resulted in the adaptation of measures for ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis (ASQoL, OAQoL and RAQoL). Our measure for psoriatic arthritis (the PsAQoL) is already validated in Portuguese. It is expected that the Portuguese language versions of the new measures will be available for use early in the new year.
